Taking Down Cancer: Why We Keep Showing Up in Pink
Nearly every one of us has been touched by cancer in some way.
We’ve seen how deeply cancer can impact the people we care about, and at St. Cloud Financial Credit Union, we believe those are the moments when showing up for one another matters most. That’s why, every year, you’ll find us in our community, cheering on local student-athletes and helping pack the stands in stadiums, gyms and arenas with pink.
Because these nights are about much more than a game. They're about taking down cancer.
More Than a Game. More Than Wearing Pink.
What started four years ago as a partnership between SCFCU, St. Cloud Subaru and Sartell Athletics has grown into something much bigger.
What began with one community coming together has expanded to cancer awareness games across Sartell football, volleyball and boys hockey. And this year, we’re growing that impact even further by joining Becker football for its annual Tackle Cancer game.
The energy surrounding these games makes them some of the most memorable nights of the season. The stands are packed. Students, families and fans show up in pink. Local athletes compete with a little extra meaning behind the game.
But beneath all that energy is a much bigger purpose: reminding people impacted by cancer that they don’t have to face it alone.
Turning Support Into Impact
Showing up has made a difference.
Over the past three years, SCFCU, St. Cloud Subaru, Sartell Athletics and our surrounding communities have come together to raise more than $30,000 through these cancer awareness initiatives. During the 2025–26 school year alone, the partnership with Sartell Athletics raised $10,117.
Those dollars come from merchandise purchases, raffle tickets, donations and the generosity of people throughout our communities — and every dollar has a purpose.
Proceeds raised at each of these games support the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund — which helps fund cancer research, prevention, treatment and other programs serving the cancer community — and the TriUnity Foundation — founded by SCFCU to help reduce the financial strain experienced by individuals and families facing life-threatening illnesses, including cancer.
When you buy a pink shirt, purchase a raffle ticket or make a donation, you’re doing more than participating in a theme night — you’re helping someone in one of the most important seasons of their lives.
Join Us in Taking Down Cancer
This year, there are even more opportunities to be part of the movement:
Becker Football: Sept. 18 vs. Fergus Falls
Sartell Football: Sept. 25 vs. Brainerd
Sartell Volleyball: Oct. 13 vs. St. Cloud Tech
Sartell Boys Hockey: Jan. 12 vs. St. Cloud Crush
We’re asking our communities to do what we do best: show up.
Pack the stands in pink. Cheer on our local student-athletes. Support a cause that reaches far beyond the scoreboard.
And for the fans that attend each game, you will have a chance to win some great prizes during halftime and in-game contests — just for showing up and dressing in pink.
People Helping People
At SCFCU, “people helping people” isn’t simply something we say. It’s at the heart of why partnerships like this matter.
We’ve heard the stories behind these games: parents lost to cancer, spouses who are survivors and student-athletes whose families have been directly affected. And we’ve seen what it means for those same people to look around and see an entire gym, rink or stadium filled with people standing beside them.
Cancer can make people feel alone. Our hope is that nights like these do the opposite.
They bring neighbors together. They start conversations. They raise money that can create meaningful change. And, most importantly, they remind those fighting cancer that an entire community is fighting alongside them.
Because every little bit of support matters.
Every pink shirt worn.
Every merchandise item purchased.
Every raffle ticket sold.
Every donation.
Together, those small acts become something much bigger.
And as long as there’s an opportunity to bring our communities together and make an impact, we’ll keep showing up in pink.
