Business Spotlight — The Compassion Connection

St. Cloud Financial Credit Union is proud to continue to serve our members and communities in all aspects of their financial journey. That includes the business community and those who are either looking to start a business, expand upon their existing business, and more.

In our Business Spotlight Series, we will highlight various businesses within our community who we have had a pleasure of working with as we assist in helping bring their business dreams to life.

In this edition, we highlight The Compassion Connection, which supports foster, adoptive and kinship families in Central Minnesota.

Background

The Compassion Connection began in 2016 out of a simple but urgent need — children entering foster care often arrived with little, sometimes carrying their belongings in a trash bag. What started in the garage of President and Board Chair Amy Drehmel turned into a nonprofit that now serves foster, adoptive and kinship families throughout Central Minnesota.

Through its Compassion Closet located in Becker, donations are sorted and prepared and given right back to the community The Compassion Connection serves. At the heart of it all, The Compassion Connection’s mission is to provide dignity for kids, encouragement for families and support for the frontline social workers who care for them.

In 2026, The Compassion Connection is going to revamp and revitalization its programs, including opening a boutique space in Becker and renovating a garage into a dedicated workspace. The Compassion Connection believes that together we can continue to remind every child and family who walks through its doors that they are loved, they are seen and they belong.

Relationship With SCFCU

When The Compassion Connection expanded beyond a garage space to the nonprofit it is today, it was looking for a financial institution that shared a similar sense of care and passion for the community. That’s when The Compassion Connection came to SCFCU.

The Compassion Connection chose SCFCU because they know the local credit union isn’t just about banking — SCFCU is about building relationships, giving back its members and communities, and helping local families, organizations and businesses thrive.

What They’re Saying

“Everything we do at The Compassion Connection depends on community. We chose SCFCU because of its strong roots in the community. We love that SCFCU isn’t just about banking — it’s about building relationships and helping local families and organizations thrive. That mirrors our own mission of walking alongside families with both compassion and practical support.”

— Amy Drehmel, President/Board Chair of The Compassion Connection
